It's been 84 years... (no it hasn't, it's only been 30 days...but still)
We all knew there was room for Jack on the door BUT I DIGRESS - here are some metrics after 30 days of launching Digital Thiccness (also new goals, also PAX Unplugged in Philly!)
Top 3 Hot Topics:
1-Month Substack Retro
Goals Going Forward
PAX Unplugged
1-Month Substack Retro
I hit send on my first post on October 18th, 2023 and be sending this out live into the world on November 18th, 2023. Creating this substack was a new foray and experiment for me; I’ve always liked “microblogging” and talking within the confines of my stream of consciousness mixed with memes and sh*tposting but having this structured, longer form blog has been really nice.
Here are 8 metrics that I want to share with y’all during my first month using this platform, as a spiffy little infographic I made!
One of the biggest things I was surprised about is the amount of support! I set a goal to hit 100 subscribers in the first 30-60 days and we are at 144 subscribers in 30 days. And even more, 8 of y’all have chosen to help support Digital Thiccness monetarily and it’s much appreciated! I think having over 1500 views on this new platform across my posts was an eye catching (pun intended) as I usually look at “views” in regards to video content but to know there’s merit in 1500 views on my digital blogs is very exciting.
The open rate is way past “industry standard” for businesses, and even though I’m not a business, I’m excited to see that we’re over 60% open rate. It was wild to me to see that not only am I popping up in over 50% of the states in the U.S., I’m also in 7 countries! So cool. And lastly, Twitter/Facebook has been the best way for folks to find out about Digital Thiccness, with Instagram and Blueksy coming in in the middle, and TikTok and Linked in rounding the end. I’ve not talked about Digital Thiccness on my TikTok (only having it in my proflie) and have only done 1 post about it on my Linked In, so that’s definitely a low-lift win.
I probably won’t do a retro every month, but I think it’s important to be transparent about how my process and procedures are starting this new Subtack so y’all can peek behind the curtain as much as you’d like. I’ll also take this time to thank the paid subscribers again, and encourage you to consider upgrading your free sub to a paid sub if you’re able to!
Goals Going Forward
In my very first post on October 18th titled One small rep for himbo, one giant flexing arm for the community... I set 3 goals for myself:
• 2-4 Posts a Month
• in 30-60 days: 100 subscribers
• 2-4 podcasts by March of 2024
So far, I’ve accomplished 2 out of the 3 goals! Including this one, I posted 7 times in 30 days, and in those 30 days, I hit 144 subscribers (thank y’all!). I still have time to hit the 2-4 podcasts by March of 2024, but I may need to re-evaluate this goal. I do know that I have the ability to make a podcast on here, but it just might not be the platform for me to do so. But I won’t say no! Just gotta noodle on that a bit.
I do want to set new goals after this first month. I’ve gotten into the hang of it and I’ve been able to experience it and I really do enjoy this. I enjoy a longer platform where I can help educate, entertain and experiment with. So here’s what I’m thinking:
2-4 Posts a month until the end of the year
200 subscribers by the end of the year
Gain leads on “sponsored” posts with TTRPGs or Board games
Y’all know I love board games and TTRPGs and I would love another platform to talk about them more and with a bit more of my thoughts around them. I’m not quite sure what this looks like but I do like having a goal to at least generate some potential leads and see what can come out of it as a viable and potentially steady source of income and/or content. What type of other content or games would you want to see covered? Let me know in the comments!
PAX Unplugged
Hey look! That’s me! I’m going to be a special guest at PAX Unplugged (December 1st-3rd) in Philadelphia, PA this year. I’ll be on panels, doing workshops, and entertaining on stage for actual plays among hanging out and playing games!
If you didn’t know, PAX, or Penny Arcade Expo, started in 2004 by the creators of the Penny Arcade webcomic. PAX East in Seattle and PAX West in Boston (and formerly PAX South in San Antonio) were focused on video games. In 2017, they introduced PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia that focused on table top and board gaming! PAX Unplugged or “PAX U” is one of my favorite table top conventions. It’s not super big, but big enough to have new games and fun panels and guests. And it’s just a good punctuation to the table top / board game convention circuit so it feels almost celebratory. Will I see you there? If so, I owe you a hug!
That wraps up this post and our first 30 days together. Please let me know if you have any questions about starting your own substack and as always, what type of content do you like reading about. I’ll always stick to my original goal of helping out others with what I’ve learned within social media, marketing and community building. And I do enjoy sharing queer topics, pop culture, and my own creative endeavors. But what else would you like to see? Leave a comment and let’s talk!
Until next time…!
Stay strong. Stay thicc. *Big hug*
